Chateau Lanessan is a Cru Bourgeois, located in Cussac, to the south of the commune of St Julien, in the appellation Haut-Medoc. This 45 hectares estate is owned and managed by the Bouteiller family. It is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Merlot (20%), with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot accounting for just 5% of plantings. Wines are fermented in temperature-controlled concrete tanks for 12-18 days before aging in oak barrels for 18-30 months (5% new barrels). This is not an estate that we have followed with much interest as the wines have previously been a bit straightforward and ordinary, but the 2009 and 2010 vintages are marked improvements.
