The stunning new releases from Aalto
Old vines, rigorous selection, ex-winemaker of Vega Sicilia; Aalto looks seriously good on paper. Add to this freshness, minerality and a strong sense of place and these wines really live up to the hype.
We firmly believe that this is one of the very best addresses in Ribera and indeed in the whole of Spain. Michel Bettane has already listed Aalto in his book ‘The World’s Greatest Wines’ and Neal Martin (of Wine Advocate) has lauded the estate, dishing out praise and scores enthusiastically.
Most importantly, we like the wines. These are serious Riberas with tremendous ageing potential but they are also bright, vibrant, refreshing and moreish. Wines to cherish but also to drink. Elegant, sophisticated and not at all over the top, Aalto offers a route into Ribera for those who sometimes find Tempranillo a little too much. This is especially true in the wonderfully inviting 2011 vintage, the straight Aalto in particular has succulent red fruit and bags of charm.
We have all put these in our cellars and so should you!
