Tasting Note:

Always released a year behind the others, St Henri 2016 is comprised of 95% Shiraz and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Magill Estate. Unusually for Australian Shiraz, and unique in the Penfolds stable, is this premium wine, aged for twelve months in large, fifty year old fuders with no new oak influence. Tannins purely from the grapes. Peter Gago believes 2016 is a top vintage for St Henri, up there with 2010, 1990 and 1971. Always more restrained and detailed with finer grained tannins, cherry stones and subtle black fruit, developing mocha notes with age.
