Tasting Note:

Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal continues the revolution at Angelus. 2021 is unrecognisable from Angelus of old. Produced from 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, with half the Cabernet Franc aged in foudres to lessen the new oak influence. They selected berries by the density of their sugars prior to the regular sorting table. Initially very floral with violets, iris and some blood orange. The palate has a nice composure, dark and mineral, yet fresh, with hints of spice and dried flowers. There's really impressive purity here, plenty of intensity, wrapped in silky textured tannins that lend impressive persistence. Production is down 30%.
