Tasting Note:

Much like La Serre, this is a wine we often overlook, but in 2020, Bourgneuf has created something rather special. The terroir here is excellent; the vineyard is just below Trotanoy on gently sloping gravel and clay, with iron-rich subsoils. The latest generation of the Vayron family is being much more attentive in the vineyards and cellar and the results are impressive. Liquid minerals and griotte emerge from the dark and brooding bouquet. There’s a lovely core of creme de mûre, long and texturally impressive it fills the palate. Satisfyingly juicy with a good framework of tannins underpinning the fruit. 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

"Inky plum colour, clear coffee grounds on the attack but this is also full of Pomerol richness, bitter chocolate shavings and damson plum fruit. You are definitely in a concentrated, knitted-down style here with plenty of muscle that delivers appellation signature. Tasted twice. Harvest September 14 to 25. Drinking Window 2027 - 2040." 94/100 - Jane Anson, Decanter.com
