Tasting Note:

Madame Capbern is more than happy with her 2003, having never seen Cabernets of such quality. Calon-Ségur has gravel over clay - identical to those of Châteaux Latour and Margaux - and all three wines would figure in our “must-have” selection for 2003. The wine has a fruit-driven, rich, dark, damson/cassis fruit aroma. On the palate it is voluptuous and mouth filling, concentrated, with well-rounded, silky, ripe tannins, and cool and classy on the finish. A good deal more restrained and complex than much of the appellation. Yields were “modeste”, and the final assemblage is a blend of 50-60% Cabernet Sauvignon/ 30-40% Merlot/ and the rest Petit Verdot aged in 50% new oak.
