Tasting Note:

This excellent estate situated between Calon Segur and Montrose benefits from the same wine making team as Calon Segur: Laurent Dufau, Vincent Millet and Eric Boissenot. The fruit from this vineyard formed part of Calon Segur until the 2006 vintage, when the late Denise Gasqueton decided to create a separate label. It has now dropped the Gasqueton from its name and will just be called 'Capbern'. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot cropped at 47 hl/ha. Pretty yet dark, this modern Capbern has a nicely measured extraction, with pure, noble favours of cool menthol infused cassis, graphite and violets. The palate is suave with salty crème de mûre and dark cherry notes. Despite the rain, there is no sense of dilution; there is good freshness and energy to the fruit and a persistent chocolatey finish.
