"Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 2000 tasting in London. This is reticent on the nose at first, but opens up nicely with time, blackberry, plum, black coffee, cedar and a slight estuarine note. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tannins on the entry, firm backbone and good depth. Stern and masculine, a saline note towards the cedar and tobacco scented, sappy finish. This is a great showing for Chasse Spleen and comes recommended for the vintage. Drink 2012-2030. "

About Château Chasse Spleen

Chasse Spleen is a Cru Bourgeois in the Moulis appellation. It vies with the likes of Poujeaux for the number one spot in this southern Médoc commune that is home to a number of great value clarets. Often tannic in their youth, the wines do need 6 or 8 years in the bottle before reaching maturity, but thereafter they can age very well indeed. This estate was particularly successful in the magnificent 2009 and 2010 vintages and the trend is towards a more accessible, earlier drinking style.

Appellation: Haut Médoc

The Haut Medoc is a sub region of the Medoc, which covers some 4,643 hectares and incorporates communes such as St Estephe, Pauillac, St Julien and Margaux. Given the size of this appellation, there are a variety of different terroirs including clay, chalk and gravel. Most famous estates within the Haut Medoc defer to their more specific appellations, however, there are five classified growths that belong to the generic Haut Medoc AOC, The most famous being La Lagune and Cantemerle. Jean Gautreau’s Sociando Mallet is another noteworthy Haut Medoc estate.

Grape Blend: Cab. Sauvignon | Merlot | Cab. Franc

The hallowed Bordeaux trinity of grape varieties that form the stock left bank blend. Cabernet's Sauvignon's acidic, tannic complex qualities marry ideally with Merlot's sweet, softy flesh characteristics, and Cabernet Franc's finesse and freshness. This classic combination has worked so successfully in Bordeaux that it is now mirrored the world over, particularly in warm sunny climates such as the Languedoc, Tuscany, South Africa, Australia and Napa Valley.
