Tasting Note:

Petit Cheval came trotting back in 2016. Produced from just three plots (out of 45), and representing just 7% of the production, this is another super-refined effort from Pierre-Olivier Clouet. The style is all about grace. All the Cheval wines are gloriously understated; charm, elegance and precision are the goal and they've hit the back of the net. A gorgeous bouquet of sweet Morello cherry, a little eucalyptus, roses and freshly chopped herbs leads into a precise and focussed palate of crimson fruit, tayberry and lingonberry. There is undeniable power and one gets the sense that this wine will grow in stature and broaden its shoulders in years to come. What is really so impressive is how Petit Cheval really doesn't feel like a second wine. Like Chapelle d'Ausone and Pensees de Lafleur, there is a harmony and sophistication, combined with effortless silky tannins that makes one think of grand vin. Bravo.
