Cissac’s vineyards are set on good terroir in the hinterland behind Pauillac, and owner Louis Vialard built the reputation of this popular Cru Bourgeois the hard way in the sixties and seventies, travelling the globe and shaking many thousands of hands. He always found a warm welcome in the UK, where the chateau’s traditional style was particularly well received, and our company was one of his regular customers for many years. Now under the direction of Louis’s daughter, the wines continue to please a demanding, Francophile audience, and we are glad to be offering this wine once again as a primeur. (NB UK sales only.)
Chateau Cissac is the family home of the Vialard family. This charming estate is situated close to St Estephe and Pauillac and is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon. Other Medoc varieties: Merlot and Petit Verdot are also planted and are incorporated in the final blend. Laurent Saint Pasteur, the winemaker is passionate and knowledgeable, striking just the right balance between tradition and modernity. The wines always have a Medocain character, but advances in wine-making have resulted in more refined tannins and greater purity of fruit; recent vintages possess a poise and sophistication that is very impressive. The wines have become a firm favourite for both private clients and restaurants.
