Tasting Note:

If you thought we've been a bit disparaging about the Pessac Leognan appellation, this should balance things out a bit. In addition to the wonderful range at Haut Brion, Domaine de Chevalier, Smith haut Lafitte and Haut Bailly have also got it spot on. Produced from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Haut Bailly is super restrained, a beautiful, delicate, finely detailed wine. The nose is precise with aromas of loganberry, thimbleberry, tayberries and fresh mint. Waves of pure griotte fruit and earth charm the palate. This isn't sexy like the Smith Haut Lafitte, it is taut and classical in the best possible sense; it builds gently and unfurls to a beautiful peacocks tail of riberry and minerals. Refreshing, intense and very striking.
