Tasting Note:

As with sister property, Le Gay, this is the second vintage of Violette to be micro-vinified in their very impressive new cellar. Produced from a tiny 1.6 hectare plot of Merlot close to VCC and le Pin, this is a 100% Merlot cuvee and will be aged for 15 months in 100% new Saury barrels. Violette is not what some might assume. Yes it is the darling of Robert Parker and it holds a micro cuvee status, but this is far from garagiste. We were impressed by the minerality and salinity of the 2014. Unfortunately, the 2015 appeared a bit ponderous and soupy after the rather exquisite Le Gay. Intensely plummy, almost jammy notes, cloves, velvety loganberry fruit and liquorice. This is impressive in terms of its concentration and creamy mid-palate, but perhaps lacks a bit of vitality and lift. Just 5500 bottles will be produced.
