Tasting Note:

The L'Eglise Clinet 2017 is a mighty impressive blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged in 70% new oak. We were fortunate enough to taste a few barrel samples in January so we knew we were in for a treat. The sample presented to us in April was much more reticent and brooding than our first encounter. Aromatically this is quite closed and even with considerable coaxing, it remained tightly coiled. There is an understated beauty here with noble Pomerol aromas of damson, açaí, fine herbs, gravel and cedar. The palate is far more accessible with swathes of boysenberries, bilberries, black cherry and noble cassis. There is tremendous density and lots of extract, yet it is so vivid and vibrant. Although a large-scale wine, it has an understated elegance and finishes with delightful fruit soaked tannins.
