Tasting Note:

Jean-Charles Cazes describes 2011 as a 'challenging year' - refreshingly honest - much like his wines. He explained that some berries suffered sunburn during the extreme heat at the end of June and rot was a threat during a rather wet August'. We don't know what his trick is, but it has worked, the whole range is sensational. Tannin levels are close to those in 2009 and 2010 and there is no lack of ripeness. This is a blockbuster Lynch Bages: brooding, powerful, masculine, mineral and handsome. One can really taste the dry extract here, it coats the mouth and grips the taster. Huge swathes of crème de cassis and inky black fruits caress the mouth, before the substantial tannins reveal themselves. The tannins deserve further mention as they are massive and impressive, but one is left with lingering flavours of pure cassis and gravel on the finish. One of the largest scale wine of the vintage and very impressive it is too. 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
