Tasting Note:

As ever, Chateau Margaux’s white is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine raised entirely in oak, though today only a quarter of the demi-muid barrels they use are new. Fewer than 850 cases are produced of this prodigious wine that combines elements of cool tropicality and rich power with remarkable tension and poise. Thibault explained that the wine’s low pH of 3.2 was down to the cool nights they experienced leading up to harvest, and it is clearly a defining factor in the wine. It is so expressive and concentrated as notes of pineapple, lime, white flowers, grapefruit and orange peel bust across the palate in an intense display of powerful fruit notes that stain the mouth, leading to a fresh sleek finish that has notes of salt, fine complex minerality and sea shell. Bravo! Harvest was carried out between the 8th and 13th of September.
