Tasting Note:

The big news from Chateau Margaux this year is the emergence of a third (red) wine. This means a greater selection for Pavillon Rouge. There's no name for the third wine yet, but `Carruades de Margaux` could be a shamelessly commercial but financially astute choice... 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, Pavillon Rouge will account for 38% of the crop, the same proportion as the grand vin. Paul Pontallier is very happy with the results and believes this to be the `greatest` Pavillon Rouge they have ever made, and who are we to disagree? A sensual, explosive Pavillon Rouge; the nose is reserved but there are hints of violets, cherry stones and ripe summer berries. The palate is awash with refined crème de cassis fruit and fine minerals. One can't fail to be impressed by the gorgeous, sumptuous, suave fruit, the wonderful polished texture, freshness, elegance and refined tannic structure. Ethereal!
