Tasting Note:
Introspective initially but then glorious purple fruit and Asian spice, it unfurls into a dramatic bouquet of liquorice, creme de mûre and potpourri. Terracotta, spice, baked clay, then under that some very pure black berry fruit, wild vanilla pod, black plum, a tiny touch of prune, dark cherry and cacao. There’s a good deal of complexity here with lots of exotic, star anise, cinnamon, clove spice, and plenty of length. It’s an exuberant, kaleidoscopic Mouton with lots of juicy, detailed fruit on the palate; fresh, long, so harmonious, full of joyful ripe berry interspersed with minerals and ferrous rocks. With aeration, it just gets better and better, finding more freshness and direction. It’s long with a superb tannic profile detailing bright griotte cherries, salt, plums, cocoa nibs and alpine strawberry. We expect this to develop a touch more polish during élevage, and then it will be a superb Mouton. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot.
"This shows purity of fruit with blackcurrants and cassis and hints of blueberries and fresh flowers. Toasted and roasted. The 90% of cabernet sauvignon really makes this special. Lead-pencil, tar and licorice notes. Powerful with finesse. Extremely persistent. 99-100/100". - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com
