Tasting Note:

Nicolas Glumineau is a modest man not prone to hyperbole, so when he says 2018 is a vintage that will 'traverse time and remain a true point of reference', we sit up and take note. Produced from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the Reserve de la Comtesse 2018 is one of the most complete and lovely second wines from Bordeaux. It probably doesn't have the density and tannic profile of the Dame de Montrose this year, but it makes up for those shortcomings with perfume and composure. Another wine that requires a bit of coaxing, so many of these great Cabernet based wines are reserved, veiled by their dark mineral cores. Then it starts to reveal that tell-tale Pichon fragrance of violets, tobacco, creme de cassis and fine stones. The palate is fleshy and generous with refined raspberry liqueur, silken fruit, cashmere textured, with glorious tannins. Full of flavour and most appealing; a really sophisticated and luxurious Reserve de la Comtesse.
