Tasting Note:

The final blend of the 2017 Pichon Longueville is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. For the second year running, this Pichon has defied conventional thinking and has shown better at the UGC tasting than at the Chateau. It certainly wasn't a weak showing at Pichon, this is a plush example packed with dark cherry and fragrant redcurrants all wrapped in an impressive veneer of pure ripe tannins. When tasted at Lafon Rochet there was more engaging fruit, silky crème de mûre, very intense and mouth coating, juicy yet refined and noble, with a real sense of power and authority. It does feel a little bit stylised, but there is no doubting that there is lots of impressive material and there are no hard edges.
