Tasting Note:

Pauline Calvet's Picque Caillou estate is situated between Haut Brion and Merignac airport. It has been on a fine run of form and makes a habit of outclassing far more illustrious names from the Pessac commune. Produced from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and aged in 40% new oak barrels. I know we've been raving about Pauline's wines for some time, but the 2016 could be the best yet, certainly the most elegant and refined. The bouquet is brimming with bright Morello cherry notes and a gorgeous stony minerality. There is ample concentration; sumptuous redcurrant and cassis flavours glide over the palate and finish in a starry crescendo of bright cranberries and crushed rocks. This is a really impressive Picque Caillou.
