Château Rauzan Ségla

Château Rauzan Ségla

Bought by the Wertheimer brothers of the fashion house, Chanel, in 1994, Rauzan Segla has slowly undergone a transformation under the astute leadership of John Kolasa. Prior to the Chanel ownership, grapes were harvested by machine with no sorting tables and foot pressed before being fermented in enormous vats with little to no temperature control. Since 1994, new machinery, investment in the chai, combined with harvesting by hand and much greater selection in the vineyard have brought this 2nd growth estate into the 21st century as one of the foremost Margaux properties.

Since Nicolas Audebert’s arrival in 2014, this chateau has experienced a renaissance. Building on the great work of John Kolasa, Nicola and his team have produced a sequence of polished, beautifully balanced Margaux. Not only is Rauzan Segla now firmly established as one of the top wines of this appellation, it is now consistently amongst the best performing wines of the whole Medoc. Although very much within the “super second” echelon in terms of quality, it doesn’t come with a “super second” price tag (for the time being), making it one of the most sought-after wines en primeur.
