Tasting Note:

Simply gorgeous. The 2019 surpasses anything we can recall tasting during the Cathiard's tenure. There's a real sense of classism to the aromatics and the gravelly fruit. Notes of violets and iris interplay with graphite, griotte and incense. The palate is a little more reserved than normal; it's still sumptuous and fluid, but again, there's a reserve and gravitas to the fruit, it's less glossy and flamboyant than usual. In short, this is an absolutely splendid Smith Haut Lafitte, a wine full of energy and verve, gorgeous aromatics, refined tannins and haunting length. A surprising deviation form the house style, but utterly ravishing and utterly convincing.
