Château Talbot

St Julien

Grape Variety:

Cab Sauvignon Merlot

Château Talbot, 4ème Cru Classé, St Julien, 2017

Tasting Note:

We were greeted by the friendly face of Jean-Michel Laporte, formally Gerant at La Conseillante. He wasn't holding the reigns for the 2017 vintage, but whoever was should be well chuffed - this is an excellent Talbot. It isn't pretentious or profound, but it is an honest St Julien with a good core of wild berry fruit, Chambord and a hint of garrigue. It feels authentic and fluid with some nice savoury and mineral touches. The tannins are more refined than normal and are flecked with lots of starry fruit. This will be a pleasing and good value St Julien. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot.
