Chateau Valade, St Emilion, 2012

Tasting Note:

Cedric explained that the vineyards at Valade have been expanded to almost six hectares following the acquisition of a further two and a half hectares near to the original sites. The four parcels are all situated around the village of St Christophe des Bardes, not far from Barde Haut and Troplong Mondot on clay, limestone and sandy soils. The terroir is good and there is always good density and depth especially when compared to most of the similarly priced wines from the sandy plains of St Emilion. There will be between 5-10% Cabernet Franc in the final blend with the balance being Merlot. The bouquet has a gorgeous perfume of damsons, mulberry jam and plum liqueur. The palate offers layers of thick black fruit, griotte cherries and dark chocolate. This is another excellent, harmonious, long, fresh effort, which will be one of the best values from 2012.
