Virginie de Valandraud, Grand Cru Classé, St Émilion, 2020

Tasting Note:

This is always going to be a divisive wine, but it has been performing well as Southwold and with élevage and a bit of bottle age it sheds some of the Napa characteristics and returns to its roots. Lots of toasty sweet oak, coffee beans, smoke and scotched earth. The palate is packed with opaque cassis liqueur, lots of substance, alcohol and big, ripe tannins that conceal lots of complexity and nuance. Impressive for its concentration – there’s certainly potential.
