Clos la Madeleine

St Emilion

Grape Variety:

Merlot Cabernet

Clos la Madeleine, Grand Cru, St Emilion, 2019

Tasting Note:

Clos La Madeleine, a jewel-like vineyard of just 2.3 hectares, is located on the south-facing plateau and terraces of Saint-Émilion, nestled in the vineyard of Château Bélair-Monange. The estate was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in September 2017. The vines were in need of some TLC, but the potential of this plot is very exciting. Produced from 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, this is brooding and mineral. With aeration, one begins to see the quality of the fruit, pure cassis infused with graphite, classic limestone aromas, then flowers, bright cherry and crème de menthe. The palate is so focussed, with tremendous energy and a core of tightly wound berry fruit. It’s effortless and long with palate staining tannins that delight the palate with a rich array of minerals and salt. Highbrow St Emilion.
