La Chenade, Lalande de Pomerol, 2005

  La Chenade

Denis Durantou is one of the most exciting winemakers on the Right Bank. He’s best known for his outstanding Pomerol chateau, L’Eglise Clinet, but he is equally passionate about his more humble offerings, which are designed to raise the bar of quality without charging huge prices. La Chenade is the best known of these, and now hails entirely from a vineyard that can be seen from Eglise Clinet on the very border of Pomerol itself. The 70% of Merlot in his excellent 2005 makes for a very juicy mouthful, while the 20% of Cabernet Franc gives a perfect savoury balance and the fresh tannins finish the experience off nicely.

Contains Sulphites.

About La Chenade

Denis Durantou of Eglise Clinet owns this excellent Lalande de Pomerol estate. The wines are some of the best values from Bordeaux and are firm favourites of the Justerini & Brooks team.

Appellation: Lalande de Pomerol

The region produces Merlot-dominated wines which can offer great value similar in style to the wines of Pomerol but with less concentration. The soils are gravely and well-drained.

Grape Blend: Merlot | Cab. Franc

Cabernet Franc with its unique herb infused red berry fragrance, adds backbone and acidity to the sensual, round favours of Merlot. This is as tried and tested combination used in the vast majority of serious St Emilion and Pomerol blends.
