François Jobard

For a man who cuts a rather slender and unassuming figure, François Jobard makes some of Meursault’s finest, age-worthy wines. This is due to superbly situated vines and a ‘minimal intervention’ winemaking philosophy. When questioned about ‘batonnage’ (the practice of stirring up lees in barrel to increase a wine’s complexity) he recoils, explaining that this process only serves to make a wine fragile. Whether he is right or wrong, one thing is for sure, lay these wines down and you will be rewarded by the development of delicious nutty, honeyed and soft-fruit flavours.
