In a word, stunning. The presence, complexity and structure that you would expect of Clos des Ducs is all there, what is noticeably different to other vintages is the sensational texture and distinct generosity of fruit. The flavours are poised, perfectly weighted and expand hugely on the long finish. This offers forest berry, cherry, bramble, damson and plum characteristics interspersed with bright mineral, earth and stone notes. This is dense, powerful yet refined and vital. The great vineyard of Volnay that produces statuesque, complex mineral wines that need time to express themselves.
