Tasting Note:

There’s more immediate complexity here as delicate smoke meets more tropical aromas, pineapple, guava, mango, butter and tangerine. Typically, profound and powerful, this nevertheless has wonderful freshness and detail, particularly on the finish, suggesting lots more to come. Nuanced, textured and intense, yet due to habitually elevated acidity, never cloying this has the power of a great grand cru allied to a sense of coiled restraint. This is all about upside for now, a wine with so much densely packed flavour yet also remarkable freshness - a real tour de force. Matt Courtney’s Frei Road comes from the famed Martinelli Ziotony vineyard, the very same site that Marcassin pull fruit from. A single clone, Dijon 548 makes up the blend.

About Frei Road vineyard: This vineyard has been farmed by the Martinelli family for generations and continues to be tended by George Martinelli. A mild climate graces this corner of Sonoma, and Chardonnay grapes ripen slowly in the well-draining Goldridge soil. Located near the village of Graton in the rolling hills south of the Russian River, Frei Road Vineyard produces a wine of great complexity, tension, and minerality
