Tasting Note:

Less than half a mile from Alpine, but a very different vineyard producing very different wines. With an elevation up to 1600 feet the well-draining soil here is all brittle, rust coloured Monteray shale, and the ridge between here and Alpine gives a similarly cool character, without the direct Ocean influence. There's a little extra complexity on the nose, a touch of wild meat and ironlike minerality alongside sweet red fruits, wild flower and a coiled power quality. There is a serious air to this, complex shale notes veering on the salty, savoury fruit, wild hedgerow and sweet stones. Very impressive!
