Tasting Note:

It is swiftly becoming clear 2002 was a fabulous vintage for Champagne. Slow maturation and bright, dry conditions resulted in small quantities of perfectly ripe grapes. Potential alcohol degrees were the highest recorded since 1990 (which at the time were the highest since 1959.) this is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, that has spent 4 years sur lie 25-30% initially fermented in oak barrel. A wonderful Champagne, so complete - juicy but rich, whilst showing great finesse and power at the same time, delicious. Certainly less backward than the 1996 but every bit as complex, offering deliciously juicy notes of red fruit, beautfiul crisp citrus characteristics together with suggestions of honeyed toast.
