Tasting Note:

After the atypicité of 2003, the 2004 Dom Pérignon heralds a return to character for this benchmark house. Layers of white flowers and chalky limestone emerge from the glass hinting at the freshness and elegance on display on the palate. At this early stage the initial impression is of a champagne more open and approachable than the 2002 was, and a good deal more classically styled than the 2003. Brioche notes, lemon peel, salt, jasmin and peaches - there is already plenty of to love. And as it sits in the glass it seems to gain in stature and tone, firming up through the finish so that while it began all elegance and effortlessness, the final impression is of tension and taut pure fruit. A very lovely, vinous Dom Pérignon, whose development will be a delight to follow.
