The Didier Dagueneau 2014s are almost certainly the finest vintage in the new era of Louis Benjamin and Charlotte Dagueneau. Across the range these are wines of precision and balance, with all of the well-known cuvee characteristics very clearly displayed. There’s a steel to the '14’s that is balanced by a wonderfully cool yet generous fruit element; the result of a vintage that began well but stalled in August with a complete lack of summer, before culminating in one of the driest Septembers on record. Furthermore, as well as finishing dry there was plenty of wind, which concentrated the must without any ungainly increase in sugars. When harvest started on the 22nd September the grapes were in such great shape that the Dagueneaus could harvest each of their parcels almost at leisure, a luxury not afforded them in either of the preceding two vintages.
With a vintage like this in the cellar, one of age-worthiness and intensity, the spirit of the great man is very much alive and kicking at this stellar family Domaine.
