d'Yquem new release

d'Yquem 2014

The sensational Yquem 2014 was quite literally a labour of love. Sandrine Garbay and her team took nine weeks and numerous tries to complete the harvest. Early passes possessed wonderfully clear fruit and high acidities. The later pickings furnished the wine with unctuous botrytis and decadent honeyed aromas. Blended together, and the sum becomes so much more than the parts. This is a staggering Yquem, with astonishing delineation and flawless balance. The bouquet offers up notes of hay, acacia honey, tarte tatin, lemon drizzle and brioche. Rich yet vibrant, the palate delivers layers of complex crystalline fruit, while a bright line of acidity keeps everything taut and harmonious. In fact, it’s the acidity that makes this one of the most engaging and delectable young Yquems we can ever remember tasting. It’s not perhaps as lavish as the 2001 or 2009, but it is absolutely pitch perfect – and with a gorgeous saline finish, it’s thoroughly engaging…

Also released today by Yquem is their dry white wine, Ygrec. The 2015, as with all recent vintages, is the product of the first harvests. As ever this is intense, alluring and utterly unique. The 2015 is perhaps the brightest and most complete Ygrec to date and a very credible alternative to Pessac Leognan and Burgundy. Bravo!
