    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Domaine de la Folie, Rully, Blanc, 1er Cru, Clos St Jacques, 2018

The soils are poorer here than their Clos du Chaigne and it shows in the heightened minerality and more slender shape of the wine. Focused, salty crushed stone character with a little flesh and ripeness to it. Fruit notes of Mirabelle, quince, citrus and rock salts. Packed with flavour but delivered across the palate in the most elegant and vivacious way. This stylish Rully hails from another Domaine de la Folie Monopole. A fine, east-facing stony vineyard of vines aged between 70 to 80 years old. Aged in oak barrels, 20% of which are new.

The 2018 Rully Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru shows its class on the nose, which is very Puligny-like in style, offering crushed stone, green apple and light minty aromas and good intensity. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite citric and maybe a bit tight at the moment. There is plenty of energy here, although unlike the Clos du Chaigne, this deserves a couple of years in bottle.
