    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Domaine de la Folie, Rully, Blanc, 1er Cru, Clos St Jacques, 2018

The soils are poorer here than their Clos du Chaigne and it shows in the heightened minerality and more slender shape of the wine. Focused, salty crushed stone character with a little flesh and ripeness to it. Fruit notes of Mirabelle, quince, citrus and rock salts. Packed with flavour but delivered across the palate in the most elegant and vivacious way. This stylish Rully hails from another Domaine de la Folie Monopole. A fine, east-facing stony vineyard of vines aged between 70 to 80 years old. Aged in oak barrels, 20% of which are new.

The 2021 Rully Clos St. Jacques 1er Cru was picked in two hours since they lost 84% of the crop due to frost. It has a taut nose, more backward than the Clos de Chaigne, opening with orchard fruit and light limestone scents. The palate is well balanced with fine concentration, vibrant with a distant tang of marmalade, a little candied towards the satisfying finish. Wonderful…but so little of it!
