    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Tense and a little taciturn at first. Taut, defined and gripping but exquisitely noble tannins. A cool, crushed stony character sits at its core, garlanded by crunchy red cherry fruit with sweeter garriguettes and damson touches. Beautifully sculpted. Along with Veroilles and Fuées, Cras is one of the higher Chambolle vineyards and has very poor, stony soils that produces, racy, reserved wines that blossom with age.

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a tight, compact bouquet with some oak that needs to be fully subsumed, but there is primal, untamed intensity here. The palate is quite muscular on the entry, almost equidistant in style between Chambolle and Morey, and delivers plenty of substance and grip toward the defined finish. This is a bit of a brute at the moment, but I think it will pull through with bottle age. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
