    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Spicy, brooding and dark-fruited with sweeter touches of fig, Victoria plum and bramble offset by savoury black olive notes. Tight-wound and very intense. It feels less rich than the 2016 and more elegant, but there is still no shortage of punch here. A whole-bunch-fermented blend that usually comprises 75% Grenache and 25% Cinsault. This year there is around 10% Cinsault only, though, and more Grenache. The vines are fifty year old vines from which Isabel Ferrando makes less than 2,000 cases a year. The vines are in the estate’s original and historic Quartier des Serres sector. Half of the wine is aged in concrete tank and half in large used oak hogsheads, for 18 months.

Saturated ruby. Ripe red and blue fruit, floral and spice qualities on the intensely perfumed nose. Shows a compelling blend of depth and energy, offering intense cherry, black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and suggestions of exotic spices and candied lavender. Fine-grained tannins add subtle grip to an impressively persistent finish that strongly echoes the floral and spice notes.
