New releases - Giacomo Conterno 2010
Barolo lovers will know all about the 2010 vintage by now but for those of you who have not heard it before this is a great year, one which Roberto Conterno of Giacomo Conterno describes as a “Bellisima Annata” – a huge endorsement from one of the most respected and fastidious men in Barolo. If this was not exciting enough there will be a new Barolo amongst the estate’s 2010 vintage releases, the Barolo Cerretta. This is the good news, the bad news is that quantities are smaller than ever. Poor flowering followed by the estate’s usual rigorous selections, compounded further by proportionately more grapes being used for Monfortino 2010 than usual, have resulted in tiny quantities being released.
The new kid on the block, Cerretta, compliments the Barolo Cascina Francia very well. Like its stable mate, Ceretta is a very fine west facing vineyard in the Serralunga commune, the difference lies in its clay- dominated soils as opposed to Cascina Francia’s limestone. The resulting wine is something less mineral but more voluptuous and textured, with lots of fruit, charm and aroma. This is a wonderful set of wines that do this top Barolo vintage every bit of justice. Roberto has taken the big decision not to release a 2007 Monfortino but instead will release a 2008 next year.
As quantities are small, so the wines will need to be allocated. Please register orders will need to be allocated
We are also delighted to offer a selection of older vintages currently available for immediate delivery.
