Tasting Note:

Emrich-Schonleber's dry wines have an enormous reputation amongst German wine afficionados. None more so than the elusive Auf der Ley. Registered as its own Grosse Lage as of 2014, Auf der Ley comprises two parcels of vines averaging thirty and sixty years old respectively, situated in the uppermost corner of the great Halenberg vineyard at 50% gradient. The soils are predominantly slate and gravel, with minimal top soil, producing wines of laser-like focus and oodles of dry extract. A deeply impressive taut and saline expression of Riesling where fruit is secondary to dry earth, stones and minerals. Patience here will be handsomely rewarded. Bottled exclusively in large formats, totalling just three hundred magnums and ten double magnums.
