Always the more backward and reductive at this early stage, the Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese opens with aromas of gunflint and spontaneous fermentation, slowly revealing sweet peach notes and those classic, sleek Devonian slate flavours. At present the complex minerals and elegant earth notes take centre stage. "Maybe it was the early rain, but Wehlener Sonnenuhr particularly shows a real character of the soil this year" Katharina opined. Whatever the reason, this is a beautiful, thoughtful Spätlese with all the balance and harmony to age for many years to come.
