As is always the case, Oliver’s explanation of the grand crus he exploits begins first and foremost with a lesson in viticulture. In this case, the Kreuz site plays home to the first grafted Burgundian clones in Germany, planted at the same time as Huber’s Wildenstein. The rootstocks in this site are an impressive 70 years old and the plants date back to 1996. A bright, luminous ruby in colour, with jewel-like red cherry fruits and judiciously crunchy, well-managed tannins, the Kreuz marries a beautiful texture with a long fine, fresh finish.
