Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Robert Weil, Kiedrich Grafenberg, Riesling, Auslese, 2017

Pungent with beautifully clean and elegant botrytis notes, green apricot and dried flowers; there's something painterly in the way this expresses itself, broad sweeps of intricate flavour and then on the palate, this focussed sweetness and the most succulent flavours of pure apricot, fine flower honey, lime marmelade, quince and candied lemon. You can feel the nobility here as the spiced minerality takes over on the finish, a flourish that bodes so well for the future. A most impressive Auslese.

Buddleia and gentian offer alluring floral diversity in a nose that also features glazed pineapple, quince jelly and poached peach. The oily-rich palate perpetuates the aforementioned fruity characteristics, supported by prominent but by no means excessive sweetness. There is a faint suggestion of caramelization in the finish, but fortunately luscious juiciness as well. Peach pit piquancy along with stony and alkaline notes together nicely complements the wine’s formidably-concentrated richness of fruit.
