The Spanish name for Mourvèdre. After Syrah and Grenache, Mourvèdre is one of the most important black grape varieties in Southern France and the Southern Rhone, namely Châteauneuf-du-Pape, giving structure and intensity to the blend. It is widely planted in Spain and increasingly in Australia and California - where it's known as Mataro - for either varietal wines or blends.
