Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Fratelli Brovia, Barolo, Garblet Sue, 2015

An even mix of black and red berry fruit with warming sweet spices flavours, fortified by a firm tannic spine. Solid, juicy, hearty Barolo. Robust but even-keeled. Bags of character. The most structured and muscular wine in the Brovia cellar. Aged for three years in large used oak casks.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2015 Barolo Garblèt Sue' is dense and powerful in the glass. A rush of black cherry, plum, lavender, iron and sage literally burst from the glass. Ample, full-bodied and intense, the Garblèt Sue' is another stellar wine in this range. The typically incisive Garblèt Sue' tannins are nearly buried by the sheer richness of the fruit. Today, the Garblèt Sue' is distinguished by its wild, feral profile and huge core of fruit. In this vintage, the Garblèt is the overachiever in the range relative to how it shows in most vintages.

Fratelli Brovia

Fratelli Brovia

Brovia are a traditional Barolo producer, in the winemaking sense not in the vineyard sense. That is to say yields are low but the fermentations are natural and happen in cement tanks before ageing in large old oak casks for 3 years. The estate is situated in Castiglione Falleto between Azelia and Scavino, their vineyards are spread over the Castiglione and Serralunga communes. The wines are pure, characterful and gripping but in a very gentle and moreish style, they have great intensity and charm whilst also expressing individuality and reflect the distinct differences between their great terroirs.
