Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Grape Variety:

Nerello Mascalese

Etna Rosso, Calderara Sottana, 2017

Tasting Note:

Aromatically expressive and very complex. A wide array of sophisticated sweet red fruit, herbs, spice salt and rocks. Equally complex on the palate. Very layered yet open-knit flavours of red berry and wild herbs overlaying a firmly gripping, powerful tannic framework. By far the stoniest of the Etna Crus, its fist-sized black volcanic pumice covering the vineyard. The vine are between 50-100 years old and planted at an altitude of between 600-700 metres. The terroir is based on very old “Ellitico” soils , dating back to between 15,000 and 60,000 years ago, these are rare and only two crus on Etna are purely composed of it- San Lorenzo and Calderara. Ageing is for 18-20 months in a mixture of barriques, demi muids and large barrels of used wood.
