Tasting Note:

By far the stoniest of the Etna Crus, its fist-sized black volcanic pumice covering the vineyard. The vines are between 50-100 years old and planted at an altitude of between 600-700 metres. The terroir is based on very old “Ellitico” soils , dating back to between 15,000 and 60,000 years ago, these are rare and only two crus on Etna are purely composed of it- San Lorenzo and Calderara. Stylistically this is possibly Terre Nere’s most complete and accomplished wine; spicy leathery, savoury characteristics mixed with lift, floral sweet fruit. Ample and complex, yet so refined and fleet of foot. Ageing is 18 months in used oak barriques and tonneaux.
