  Tenuta San Guido

A typical Sassicaia blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Open, aromatic and charming. Beautifully balanced, delicate, sweet red fruits of the forest flavours mixed with fresh cassis, with just a whisp of mineral, herb and stone. So juicy and harmonious with a gentle but harnessing grip. Bright, alluring and so drinkable. Faithful to the pure, elegant style that is characteristic of Sassicaia. From vineyards situated between 100 to 400 metres above sea level planted on stony limestone and clay soils. Ageing has been for 24 months in a third new French oak, with 6 months of bottling ageing prior to release.

Sassicaia needs little introduction. Five parcels of land, owned by the same family since 1800 and set five miles inland from the Tuscan coastine at altitudes ranging from 250 - 600 feet above sea level. Grown on stony soils, aged in 1/3 new french oak for twenty months, and a further six in bottle prior to release. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc. It is a simple equation, yet from it comes Italian vinous royalty. Time and again the sense of terroir present in Tenuta san Guido's Sassicaia is recognised and revered. Silky tannins and finesse are the hallmarks, and always the focus on elegance over power.

Appellation: Tuscany

Tuscany (or Toscana) is a large region made up of many significant smaller areas that are known across the world for the level of quality that they produce. Brunello di Montalcino, Bolgheri and Chianti can both be found here as well as the infamous "Super Tuscans".

Grape Blend: Cab. Sauvignon | Cab. Franc

Cabernet Sauvignon is often packed full of cedar herb and blackcurrant fruit notes leaning towards musk, pencil lead and cigar-box in its home region of Bordeaux. Its deep-colour, assertive tannins and affinity with oak allow the wines to improve in bottle over years if not decades. Cabernet Franc is grown predominantly in Bordeaux and the Loire, boasting fine red fruit and herb flavours, crisp acids and fine tannins, when both ripe they can form stunningly authoritative, sophisticated wines. This blend has been experimented with successfully in the warmer environs of the Languedoc, where it can yield excellent reds and rosés.
