Pinot Noir, Block 5, Central Otago, 2017

Tasting Note:

This has more flesh on its bones than any of the other Felton Pinots but maintains incredible balance. An assured wine that is so complete. Complex, powerful yet seductive and refined, it’s hard to pick fault with this. Sensual, broad flavours of dark berry, kirsch and spice fill the mouth. Both deep, long and with a touch of class, this is a truly grand Pinot. A mere 10m from block 3 but so different in style. The Pinot Noir clone is different, which plays a part, block six being planted with the “Pommard” clone. The loess / limestone soils are also more clayey, giving wines of greater structure and finally the northerly aspect ensures the block has a warmer, sunnier microclimate. Fermented with 25% whole bunches and aged for 17 months in a quarter new burgundy barrels.
